Markups & Margins

By entering the cost of a product or service and a markup or margin, FieldPulse will automatically determine the price that the customer sees. This will enable you to make a consistent margin on your jobs and know how profitable you'll be on any project.

(Note: If you have not entered costs for your line items, neither markups nor margins can be generated.)


Individual Markups

In FieldPulse, you can create individual line item price markups. To do so, you can edit an existing line item or create a new one. Navigate to Company Settings, then choose Estimates & Invoices, and go to Item List. Here you will see a list of all your line items. Create a new line item or edit an existing line item to apply a price markup.

Click on Create Item

Whether creating a new line item or editing an existing one, select the square with an arrow icon in the Unit Price field. You can now select Automatic Markup and select the automatic markup percentage. After entering your percentage, press Save.

Click on highlight

After applying an automatic markup, your unit cost will be used to automatically generate the unit price. If your unit cost changes in the future, rest assured that your unit price will be updated as well!

After entering the rest of your details, press Save. Now that markup will be applied to that individual line item and you can repeat this process for other line items you wish to add a markup to.


Automatic Markups

Automatic markup enables you to quickly apply markup on your line items based on the unit cost and markup percentage to automatically calculate a unit price for the line item.

To do so, you can edit an existing line item or create a new one. Navigate to Company Settings, then choose Estimates & Invoices, and go to Advanced.

Click on Advanced

In your advanced invoice settings, toggle Enable Automatic Markup on. Set the percentage markup you'd like to have automatically applied, then click Save.

Click on Enable Automatic Markup Yes

When creating a new line item or editing an existing one, select the square with an arrow icon in the Unit Price field. You can now select Automatic Markup and select the automatic markup percentage. You will see your automatic markup percentage already entered. Then press Save.

Click on highlight

After applying an automatic markup, your unit cost will be used to automatically generate the unit price. If your unit cost changes in the future, rest assured that your unit price will be updated as well!

Markups & Margins on Estimates & Invoices

To apply a markup or a margin on an estimate or invoice, begin by adding your line items. Then, you can select Apply Markup/Margin.

Click on Apply Markup/Margin

From here, any selection you make will overwrite the item prices on all items in your estimate or invoice. Select to apply a markup or achieve a margin. After entering the percentage, the new estimate/invoice total will appear in the bottom left side of the pop-up. Press Confirm to apply these changes to your estimate/invoice.

Type "50"
Click on Confirm

After selecting Confirm, notice that the unit prices and total prices have been adjusted based on the markup/margin you applied.
