The Basics of Hourly Billing Rate vs Hourly Cost Rate

When adding a new user to FieldPulse you'll notice a section that includes 'Hourly Cost Rate and Hourly Billing Rate' that you can include on that profile.

  • Hourly Billing Rate: The rate you charge your customers per hour for this technician.

  • Hourly Cost Rate: The dollar amount per hour that this technician costs your business.

Where can this be used?

The Hourly Cost Rate and Billing Rate can be used to include into Estimate and Invoices.

For example:

  1. You create a new 'Service Call' job and assign to one of your technicians.

  2. Then the time comes, your technician will clock into the job from the job record.

Mobile:

(This example is on iOS and under a Service Techs User Role)

Once they've clocked into the job, they can also see their timesheet by selecting 'timesheet' on the bottom bar.

We have two timesheet options. General timesheet (for payroll purposes) and Job Timesheet (to track the time spent on a specific job). To learn more about timesheets, click here.

3. Upon finishing the Service Call (or job) the technician will simply change the Job Status to 'Completed' and clock out of the job.

4. After the job has been completed, you can now create your invoice. This is where you can insert the total timesheets clocked in that's associated with the hourly billing and hourly cost rate.

  • Actions โ†’ Create Invoice (or click 'Create Invoice' in the top bar)

  • Begin to add your items to your invoice.

  • Add your 'Labor' line item โ†’ Click the 'Quantity' toggle

  • Select 'Total Timesheets Clocked.'

  • Select dropdown under 'Unit Cost and Unit Price from Team Members' and select from the list of options.

  • Then select 'Insert Quantity.'

You'll notice the Unit Price will reflect the Hourly Billing Rate of the technician that worked the job and the Quantity will pull directly from the total clocked in hours on the job which will automatically apply the proper price.
