Creating Commission Templates
To begin crafting your commission templates, navigate to Company Settings > Commission > Templates tab then select the Create New button.
Essential Template Elements
- Commission Title: This field allows you to uniquely name your template, making it easy to find what you need when generating estimates or invoices.
- Commission Description: Provide additional context or details about the commission in this text field. These descriptions will appear as selectable suggestions when you click into the field, eliminating the need for manual entry.
- Calculation Method: Select from Flat Dollar Amount, Percentage of Gross Sales, or Percentage of Gross Margin.
- Commission Amount: Easily input the commission percentage or dollar value, pre-formatted to reduce entry errors—starting at $0.00. This feature helps maintain precise financial records.
-
Commission Recipient: Choose who this template pays out when it’s applied. Leave it blank to keep entering recipients manually, or choose a role — Job Assignees, Job & Site Visit Assignees, Estimate Author, Invoice Author, or Customer Assignee — so FieldPulse can fill them in automatically for you. You can also lock in a Specific User if you’d rather hardcode one person.
- Role-based recipients keep working even as your team changes. If more than one person matches a role, FieldPulse splits the commission evenly between them automatically, and you can always adjust the split after applying the template.
If a role-based template gets applied somewhere that role doesn’t exist — for example, a Job Assignees template applied to an invoice with no job linked — FieldPulse will block you from saving and ask you to assign a recipient manually before you continue.
Use Cases for Commission Templates
By setting up templates for common commission scenarios, you save time and ensure consistency. Here are some use cases to consider:- Customer Satisfaction Bonuses: If you frequently reward employees for securing five-star reviews from customers, a commission template can streamline the process. This motivates your staff to provide exceptional service and enhances your brand’s reputation.
- Upsell Commissions: For businesses that encourage employees to promote additional services or products, a template for upsell commissions is a no brainer. For instance, this can be used if a technician suggests a preventive maintenance plan during a service call.
- Crew-Based Job Splits: If you always dispatch two or more techs together, build a template with Commission Recipient set to Job Assignees, so their commission splits evenly every time without anyone re-entering names.
- On-Time Arrival Bonuses: Recognizing punctuality can improve reliability and customer satisfaction.
- Safety Performance Bonuses: Recognize safe driving records or adherence to safety protocols, contributing to a safer work environment.
Using Your Commission Templates
You can apply a commission template two ways. On an Estimate or Invoice Record, navigate to the Cost Basis tab, then the associated Commission tab, and click the Add New Commission button. Or, click the gear icon next to Commission Recipient(s) directly on the record, then select Add New Commission > Add Template.Estimate and invoice templates can be built with commission templates attached. When you insert an invoice template into a record, it pre-populates the invoice and any commission that’s part of that template right along with it.
